You don’t have to be “advanced” to take the Advanced Open Water Diver course, it’s designed to advance your diving!
Over two days, you’ll build confidence, refine buoyancy and navigation, and gain experience under the direct supervision of your Dive Aran instructor.
By earning your Advanced certification, you’ll open the door to the best dive sites on the Aran Islands including the Wormhole (Poll na bPéist) and increase your maximum diving depth to 30 metres.

The Advanced Open Water Diver course typically includes:
3 Specialty Dives – Options may include Perfect Buoyancy, Drift Diving, Boat Diving, Search and Recovery or Marine Ecology (depending on conditions).
Day 1 (08:00 - 17:30)
Check-in at 08:00 then, three Dives at 09:00, 12:30, 15:30
Day 2 (08:00 - 15:00)
Two Dives at 09:00 and 12:30

You must be an Open Water Diver (or equivalent) before starting the Advanced course.
Yes! After completing your Advanced Open Water Diver course, you’ll be qualified to dive the famous Wormhole (Poll na bPéist) one of the most unique dive sites in the Aran Islands, accessible only to Advanced divers.
After completing the Advanced Open Water Diver course, the natural next step is the Rescue Diver course.
Yes. SSI Advanced Open Water Diver certification is accepted globally, just like PADI and other agencies.
As an Advanced Open Water Diver, your maximum depth will be 30m, allowing access to deeper and more exciting dive sites.
No. It’s designed to be a fun learning experience, not an exam. Your instructor will guide you through new skills and tailor the dives to your comfort level.
No. All scuba equipment is included in your course. If you have your own gear, you’re welcome to bring it.
The Atlantic can be cool, but don’t worry, our high-quality wetsuits (plus boots, gloves, and hoods) will keep you warm and comfortable.
The list is long... most popular are grey seals, lobsters, crayfish, many types of wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, dogfish/cat sharks. Also, if you're lucky enough, you can meet basking sharks, blue sharks even sun fish...
Visibility usually ranges from 5 metres (17 feet) up to 20+ metres, depending on conditions often surprisingly clear for the Atlantic.
