Discover the depths around Inis Mór

The SSI Deep Diving Specialty gives you the knowledge, practical skills and experience needed to plan and safely enjoy recreational dives to depths of up to 40 metres.

Over two days, you’ll complete three boat training dives with an SSI Deep Diving Specialty Instructor. You’ll learn about deep-dive planning, gas management, dive computers, buoyancy control, emergency procedures and how increasing depth affects both you and your equipment.

Courses are kept small, with a maximum of four students, giving everyone enough time and attention from the instructor.

  • Plan dives between 18 and 40 metres
  • Understand the effects of increasing depth
  • Recognise and manage nitrogen narcosis
  • Calculate and monitor gas consumption
  • Use your dive computer effectively
  • Maintain buoyancy and buddy awareness at depth
  • Plan safe ascents and safety stops
  • Respond to potential problems during a deep dive
  • Use a DSMB and appropriate safety equipment
  • Be at least 15 years old
  • Hold an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent qualification from a recognised training agency
  • Complete the required medical and course paperwork
  • Be comfortable with basic buoyancy control and open-water diving

As this is a deep-diving course, you should be comfortable in the water and have dived within the last 12 months. If you haven’t dived recently, you may need to complete a Scuba Refresher before starting the course
